In Switzerland, high school education is offered as a stage of secondary education and lasts 4 years. The education system and structure are determined by each canton, but there are common agreements for the curriculum throughout SWITZERLAND. There are three types of high schools in Switzerland, all of which offer education in different areas. The main programs offered in Swiss high schools are the first national language/second national language (French, Italian, German or Romansh), a third foreign language (English, Latin and Greek), mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, history, geography, visual arts and music. The conditions for admission to Swiss high schools are determined by the cantons and the government, but in general, it is necessary to take certain admission exams/interviews and to prove proficiency in the language of instruction with internationally recognized exams. In Switzerland, high school education is offered as a stage of secondary education and is called "upper secondary education". The State Directorate for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) is the federal body that oversees education in Switzerland, but each of the 26 different cantons is responsible for their own education; they determine and run their own education systems. Each canton has its own education department and its own academic calendar, educational structure, teaching methods and curricula, although there are some agreements in place to coordinate curricula nationwide.

In Switzerland, upper secondary education is offered as a stage of secondary education and lasts 4 years.

Applications for high school education can be made between the 9th and 12th grades . Especially before going to Switzerland in these grades, students there must have reached the language level required for education.
