In Ireland, High School Education is provided as part of secondary education. This system is divided into two cycles. The Junior Cycle includes 3 years of secondary education for students aged 12-15, while the Senior Cycle includes high school education for students aged 15-18.
The senior cycle, or the first year of high school education, begins with a transition year. The last two years of the senior cycle consist of a two-year education program that requires a final exam called the Leaving Certificate. This exam serves both as a high school graduation exam and as a university entrance exam.
