England High schools

Citizens of the Republic of Turkey who completed their high school education in a foreign country other than the TRNC can receive university education in Turkey as foreign students without taking university entrance exams. However, with a change made by the Council of Higher Education in 2019, the quotas were limited.

For Turkish students who will apply to high school in England, the first thing to look at is the grade they have completed in Turkey. Depending on the level of the grade the student has completed, the documents and exams that will be requested from the student may vary.

There are certain UK high school application requirements for international students who want to receive high school education in the UK. While application requirements vary depending on the high school students will apply to, certain conditions apply to each school. In general, the first criteria that UK high schools look at are students' academic success and English language skills.

Students who will apply to high school in England must first have a good grade point average. Students who will apply are expected to have a grade point average of 80 and above out of 100.

Foreign students who want to study in high school in England must have the minimum required level of English. High schools in England request an IELTS exam result for English language proficiency. Depending on the level of education students will start, they must receive at least 4.5 points from the IELTS exam for GCSE level and at least 5.5 points for A Level.

Some private high schools in England may also require international students to take the UKiset exam and receive a passing grade. The UKiset (Independent School's Entry) exam measures the suitability of international students for the UK high school education system. This exam tests both the academic and English proficiency of students. There are questions on topics such as English, Mathematics, problem solving and analytical thinking.

The basic documents required are as follows:

  • Academic reference letters written in English (letters written by teachers who have had the chance to observe the student academically, describing the student's academic achievements and personality traits)
  • A motivation letter in English, explaining the student's academic background, future plans and reasons for wanting to receive high school education in the UK.
  • IELTS exam result document proving English language proficiency
  • UKiset exam result document depending on the high school the student will apply to

International students who are in England for high school education have dormitory and host family accommodation options. In dormitory accommodation option, students can stay in single or shared rooms. Dormitories have dining hall, laundry, bathroom, rest, study and play areas.

In the homestay option, students will stay with British families selected according to certain criteria and will have the chance to get to know British culture up close. Students can stay in single or double shared rooms in houses that are frequently inspected by the school. Three meals a day are also included in the homestay fee.

The average tuition fee for state schools is between 15,000 and 20,000 GBP, while for private schools it is between 25,000 and 45,000 GBP. Accommodation is also included in the fees.

Students wishing to study in high school in the UK must have a Tier-4 (Child) Student Visa. Application approval is generally given within 3 weeks if students meet the required criteria.
